Joan Schuman is Part-Time Assistant Professor since 2004 teaching sound studies courses in the MA Media Studies program (Radio Narratives, Sound Culture, Audio Experiments) and courses in creative radio, culture of podcasting, history of listening and the newly minted Media, Nature & Apocalypse in the BA program, New School for Public Engagement. Her radiophonic practice began in the mid-’80s via public radio documentaries and evolved into artistic radio explorations in the early-’90s. Now she swaps forms at whim, encouraging her radio works to be artful and her artistry to tell stories. She is also a curator of radio and sound art via various broadcast and online projects, which can be explored at HyperAcousia.
